The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Pian di Conte is a beautiful nuanced wine laced with sweet dark cherries, crushed flowers, licorice, mint and tobacco, all of which flow with notable grace and class. Firm yet sweet, silky tannins frame the fruit through to the deep, resonant finish. The delineation, energy and persistence all distinguish the 2006 Pian di Conte. The 2006 Pian di Conte spent 36 months in oak, equal parts French oak tonneaux and Slavonian oak casks. (AG)
Bright, deep red. Perfumed aromas of roasted red berries, cherry and mocha, with an almost exotic high-toned character. Plush, sweet and high-toned in the mouth but not sloppy or roasted. In fact, a bit clenched and brooding today, with plenty of acidity apparent. This has the structure and stuffing, not to mention the tannic clout, to age gracefully, but it's in a rather awkward stage today.
This wine offers some cola, sage and fresh menthol notes. It’s an elegant package with aromatic intensity, balanced acidity and firm, tight structure. The wine is lean, compact and tight and needs another 5–10 years to come into focus.
