Ruby-red. Nuanced aromas of black raspberry, blackcurrant, licorice, tobacco leaf and smoky oak. Suave and sweet, but with sound acidity and solid spine. Complex flavors of black plum, bitter chocolate, minerals, tobacco leaf and fresh herbs. (ST)
The dark ruby-colored 2000 Merlot (only 225 cases) is more tannic and rustic than what is typically found at Quilceda Creek. Produced primarily from Ciel du Cheval Vineyard fruit (66%), it exhibits waxy, spicy blackberry aromas. On the palate, this firm, medium-bodied wine offers outstanding purity and focus. Black currants, cassis, and black cherries can be discerned in its foursquare character. (PR)
