Inky purple. Blackberry, blueberry, licorice and smoky herbs on the nose. Juicy, sweet and penetrating, with good depth to its dark fruit flavors and a touch of licorice coming up with air. Broad and weighty but also fine and detailed. Hints at serious ripeness, but also possesses good energy. This is a surprisingly lithe rendition of this variety, which leaves me cold more often than not. These grapes were harvested very late, on October 22, according to Officer. (ST)
Those masochists who need a high dosage of resveratrol will adore the 2008 Petite Sirah Yorkville Highlands, which should clear out any clutter in the arteries. A huge, massive wine with abundant black and blue fruits intermixed with licorice, camphor, graphite and spicy background oak, this chewy, unfined/unfiltered Petite Sirah should be forgotten for 4-5 years, and drunk over the following 2+ decades.
