K&L Notes

In February 1998, Robert Parker wrote: "Lynch-Moussas is clearly on the comeback trail, as evidenced by the 1995 and 1996 efforts, which are two of the finest wines I have tasted from this Pauillac estate." Tasted in 2015, the wine sings. Old school, Bordeaux-pure cassis and red fruits. Wonderful balance and length. Superb value. (Clyde Beffa, K&L Bordeaux Buyer)

Quite fruity for the vintage but with the telltale cedar and leather beginning to poke through the ripe tannins on the lingering finish. There is a nice sense of proportion to the cherry and cassis loaded middle of smoky fruit that ends very gently with subtle herb and wet mineral. This is easing very gracefully into middle age.

Ralph and I love this wine-to me it is better than their 2000! We have been following the property for the last five years and we think it is on a great track with their new releases, but try this 20+ yr old beauty. It is elegant and has a long, lingering finish. Smokey, toasty aromas, tons of cassis fruit on the palate. In a blind tasting at K&L (January 2019), one of our top Bordeaux staff thought it was a first growth Pauillac from the 80s. A steal at this price.

This 1996 is soft and sweet, with attractive notes of black olives, cherry, plums, wet stones and thyme, framed by an earthy notes with a touch of "animal" It is a beautiful wine, and just about ready to be enjoyed now.

The 1996 vintage brought on cool weather, but made for perfect conditions for ageable wines. The Lynch Moussas perfectly exemplifies the 1996 vintage. While it is certainly in its prime, drinking perfectly right now, it has aged gracefully in its 19 years and has the possibility to continue aging. Aromas of sweet cherry, leather and cola permeate the glass while the palate shows notes of smoke, coffee, olive and graphite. With an elegant polished structure and beautiful length, this bottle is a must-have for the traditional Bordeaux lover.
