A sleeper of the vintage, d'Angludet's 1996 reveals an opaque purple color, as well as a powerful, rich, black currant-scented nose with cedar, weedy tobacco, licorice, and earth in the background. Dense, backward, and atypically powerful and unevolved for a wine from this well-run chateau, this boldly made, tannic, yet impressively endowed wine will have a long lifeline. Anticipated maturity: 2001-2015.
Not a big wine, but a delicious drinkable style that shows good finesse. Aromas of berries and spices follow through to the palate. Medium-bodied, with medium tannins and a fruity, spicy aftertaste.
