The 2009 Syrah Goldridge emerges from the glass with an exciting, heady concoction of dark red fruit, flowers, spices and licorice. It possesses gorgeous focus, energy and drive from the very first taste. I especially like the energy and vibrancy here. Sweet floral notes are layered nicely into the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. (AG)
Opaque violet color. Highly perfumed aromas and flavors of cherry, blackcurrant, violet and bitter chocolate. Dense, sweet and ripe, with a supple texture and a slow-building floral element. This very smooth, impressively concentrated syrah shows surprising elegance and finishes broad, sappy, floral and long. (ST)
A mix of ripe, complex dark berry, mocha, fresh earth and tobacco flavors, featuring touches of spice and pepper. Firm, with a graceful finish. Drink now through 2023. (JL)
Solidly varietal and smelling of sweet oak, cracked pepper and roasted meats, this bottling shows a distinct bias to ripeness and is a bit more approachable than its year-older mate. It is fleshy, full and a touch soft at the margins, and, even if beat up by a bit of finishing heat, its flavors are rich and insistent. Look for three to five years of improvement, and pair it up with appropriately flavorful foods.
