The inky/purple-tinged 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Coeur de Vallee is a 250-case blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Cabernet Franc. It offers up complex notes of unsmoked high class cigar tobacco, creme de cassis, subtle barbecue smoke, licorice and pen ink. Full-bodied with outstanding texture, purity and length, this awesome Cabernet Sauvignon can be enjoyed over the next 25-30 years. Drink through 2040. (RP)
Ultrarich and concentrated, syrupy in extract, but nonetheless balanced in this style, offering a smorgasbord of flavors, with tiers of black licorice, kirsch, blackberry and dark berry jam that show notes of cedar and tobacco. Yet for all its up-front gush and burst of fruit, this sails along nicely on the finish. (JL)
Multidimensional nose combines black cherry, graphite, licorice, bitter chocolate and espresso lifted by flowers and exotic spices. Lush, seamless and superconcentrated, with a slight fruit compote aspect but enough acidity to give it life. Finishes with building but suave tannins and outstanding length. This should be long-lived but it won't hurt your mouth today. From my memory, this is fruitier than the 2007 was at the same stage of its life in bottle. (ST)
