(barrel-fermented in older barriques): Green-gold. High-pitched aromas of lime, lemongrass and chalky minerals. Bright, racy and precise, showing concentrated, strikingly vivid citrus fruit and floral flavors and a hint of iodine. Lingers with impressive tenacity, leaving mineral, spice and jasmine notes behind. Guthrie told me that this wine, which is sourced from limestone-rich soil, clocks in at a very low 3.18 pH.
The 2010 Chardonnay Brosseau is rich, voluptuous and deeply expressive, yet also supported by plenty of acidity and minerality. Crushed rocks, graphite and lemon oil come together nicely in the glass. There is an attractive mid-palate juiciness that serves to balance the wine’s insistent minerality. This is a fabulous showing from one of the very best Chardonnay vineyards in California. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2016.
