Tight and fresh, with vivid wild berry and raspberry character that's pure and spicy, with a stemmy edge, yet it works well, as the fruit density and tannins fold together in a pleasing way. Drink now through 2022. 7,771 cases made.
Melville's 2010 Pinot Noir Estate presents an intriguing fabric of sweet candied cherries, rose petals, mint and sweet herbs. This is an especially juicy, yet medium-bodied Pinot built on finesse and elegance. The 2010 is simply gorgeous. Greg Brewer used approximately 33% whole clusters here. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016. Longtime winemaker Greg Brewer has done a great job with these new releases. Although there are a number of highlights here, it is the Pinots that truly shine in 2010.
Smoke- and spice-accented aromas of raspberry, cherry and licorice, with a floral quality building with air. Dense and chewy in texture, showing sappy red and dark berry flavors and complicating notes of bitter chocolate and gunpowder tea. Silky tannins give gentle grip to the long, sweet, expansive finish. This wine will benefit greatly from decanting.
Rich and ripe in berry jam and spice flavors, this Pinot is enjoyable now for its silky texture and bright acidity. At the same time, it should develop bottle notes over the next six years.
