*Collectibles* Though still compact and firm, this red is pure, offering cherry, berry and mineral flavors on a well-toned frame. Balanced in an athletic way, with a lingering aftertaste of fruit and spice. Both intense and elegant, showing terrific length.
Noticeable reduction renders the nose difficult to evaluate. By contrast there is excellent concentration to the powerful and broad-shouldered medium weight plus flavors that are shaped by very firm and ever-so-mildly rustic tannins on the intensely earthy finish. While this will not win any awards for elegance as Porrets St. Georges is almost always among the most tannic of the Nuits 1ers, it offers plenty of character in a decidedly ageworthy package.
(vinified in oak vats, like the grand crus here, 'to open the big tannins and civilize the wine,' according to CEO/adviser Bernard Hervet): Good bright, deep red. Black raspberry, pepper and spicy oak on the nose. At once powerful and a tad rustic, with a strong raspberry flavor dominating the palate. Hugely tannic and a bit tough today; this very backward wine will need at least several years in the bottle. All of the Nuits-Saint-George premier crus here get 40% to 50% new oak.
