Pale golden-yellow. Captivating high tones to the aromas of mango, pineapple and mandarin orange. Then almost surprisingly penetrating and savory following the nose, showing terrific cut to the citrus, licorice and mineral flavors. This broad-shouldered wine, from 20-year-old vines picked on October 20, the day before heavy rain fell, boasts penetrating cut. Finishes dense and long, with saline and cut hay nuances. This site features a very long period of ripening between flowering and harvest, says winemaker Thomas Brown, sometimes up to 130 days.
The 2010 Chardonnay B. Thieriot Vineyard flows from the glass with scents of lemon, white flowers, spices and a hint of French oak. Despite the intensely mineral style, this is a rich, broad-shouldered wine that continues to grow with air. Layers of expansive fruit wrap around an energetic, refined finish. (AG)
