A deceptively medium-bodied wine, the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Hayne Vineyard is gracious and beautifully balanced from start to finish. The soft, supple fruit and harmonious tannins make for a Cabernet Sauvignon that should drink well pretty much upon release and drink well for another decade beyond that. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. (AG)
Good, full ruby-red. Dark aromas of cassis, blackberry and licorice. Plush, intense and sweet, but with terrific acid grip energizing the juicy flavors of currant and tobacco. A step up in density and texture from the State Ranch bottling. Finishes long and precise, with suave tannins and lush yet vibrant dark berry fruit. A great showing today. (ST)
Right now, the tannins are so fierce, they overshadow the jammy blackberry and cassis flavors. With such an elegant construction and balance, there’s no reason it shouldn’t develop in the bottle over the next 8–10 years. *Cellar Selection*
