The 2010 Drouhin Amoureuses is a stunningly beautiful wine. The deep, pure and magical nose offers up a blend of cherries, blood orange, mustard seed, woodsmoke, great minerality, espresso, roses and cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very pure and tangy, with stunning transparency, a sappy core of red fruit, ripe, seamless tannins and outstanding length and grip on the tangy and brilliant finish. (Drink between 2020-2070) 97+
This also displays soft wood but here the nose is much spicier with notes of cassis, plum, wet stone, anise and clove. There is good richness but also a remarkable sense of finesse to the precise and vibrant middle weight flavors that evidence a discreet minerality that carries through to the long finish that seems to be composed of pure silk. Despite all of the refinement, 2010 is one of the more powerful vintages for this storied wine yet it carries everything in perfect harmony, in fact this is a textbook example of what how I like to describe the best examples of great burgundy, e.g. power without weight. In sum, this is simply stunning. *Don't Miss! Outstanding! *
Tasted at the Chambolle Amoureuses vertical in London, the 2010 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Amoureuses is perhaps the modern-day benchmark for Drouhin's Amoureuses. As expected, it is more backward, perhaps more austere and earthier than the 2009. But what completely takes your breath away is the precision, the brilliant delineation. The palate is extremely focused, an Amoureuses balancing on a high wire, a little graininess in texture with immense length. This vin de garde deserves several years in cellar, but trust me, it will be well worth the wait. Tasted November 2015. (NM)
The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses is strikingly beautiful. Sweet dark raspberries, hard candy and white aromatic flowers are just some of the nuances that blossom in this silky, totally impeccable wine. Today the Amoureuses shows quite a bit of richness but there is also plenty of vineyard signature stamped all over the wine. This should be gorgeous in another few years. Actually, it already is. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035. This is an impressive showing from Drouhin. In my view the 2010s are more interesting and transparent than the 2009s. Veronique Drouhin describes 2010 as a vintage with long-term aging potential, which certainly seems to be the case. (AG)
Medium red-ruby. Subdued, slightly stunted nose suggests coffee, game and truffle, with primary fruits and minerals in the background. Rich, sweet and broad but much more closed than the premier cru; hints at wild huckleberry. Seamless in the middle but dominated today by its sizable tannic structure. This infant finishes with very good subtle length. Not showing its aromatic high notes today: I suspect I caught this in an awkward stage. (ST)
