Showing spectacular traits of the vintage, the 2010 Magari (50% Merlot and 25% each Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc) is a dark and modern wine with a thick fabric of dark fruit, blackberry preserves, spice and tobacco woven tightly together. The mouthfeel is exceedingly plush and there’s a sweet oak note of toasted almond or Spanish cedar on the close. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2026. (ML)
This is a wine that shows very pretty cherries and vanilla character, full body, and a clean, silky finish. Firm with a beautiful austerity. Better after 2014.
The 2010 Magari emerges from the glass with juicy dark red berries, spices, flowers, licorice and mint. This, too, is a fairly medium-bodied wine for Ca'Marcanda that seems to favor floral notes and inner perfume over the more obvious, fruit-driven style that has been the norm here since inception. The round, seamless finish is quite attractive. Another year or two should help in better integrating the French oak. (AG)
Bursting with black cherry and plum fruit, this fresh red has density and a well-integrated structure. Builds to a long finish of fruit, spice and mineral. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. (BS)
