Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2010 Syrah, from two sites in Bennett Valley, is a stunning value in handcrafted, artisan Syrah. Layers of cool, mineral-infused dark fruit caress the palate in this delineated, nuanced wine. Vibrant and intensely perfumed, the 2010 impresses for its overall balance and harmony. This is a relatively forward, juicy style of Syrah, but all the elements are in the right place. (AG)

Inky ruby. An explosively perfumed bouquet evokes dark berry preserves, black tea, licorice and smoky Indian spices. Lush, palate-staining black and blue fruit flavors show noteworthy intensity and focus and pick up a floral pastille nuance with air. Finishes broad and sweet, leaving smoke and licorice notes behind.
In 2010, Carlisle found that their Jemrose Vineyard fruit which is usually bottled as "Cardiac Hill" made a better wine when it was blended with fruit from the Steiner Vineyard. They combined the lots in nearly equal quantities and bottled the wine under the Bennett Valley appellation. About 20% of the wine was whole-cluster fermented and it was aged in 35% new French oak. From the winery: "Nearly opaque. Explosive aromas of blackberry, graphite, and spring flowers. Really blossoms with air. The wine enters smoothly, displaying plenty of black and blue fruit with a note of violet. Quite suave and sophisticated on the palate with caressing tannins on the finish. A beautifully balanced cool-climate Syrah that has a long, long life ahead of it."
