(made from fruit grown in the Widdoes vineyard; all Martini clone and raised in 45% new oak): Deep ruby. A heady bouquet of ripe red fruit and incense, complicated by intense mineral and floral nuances. Bright and energetic, offering sweet black raspberry and cola flavors that gain energy and spiciness in the glass. Tannins arrive late and are smoothly folded into this wine's sappy, concentrated fruit. Dense but lively, finishing with good clarity and length.
The 2010 Pinot Noir Ryan Widdoes Vineyard has a certain heaviness to it that I personally find less interesting than some of the other wines in the range. The fruit is boisterous and rich, but there is quite a bit less in the way of energy, minerality or tension. By just about any other producer’s standards, this would be a fabulous wine, but at DuMol the 2010 Ryan is only outstanding. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022.
Supple, graceful and layered, showing spicy plum, black cherry, strawberry and tea flavors, with medium weight and a persistent finish. Drink now through 2019.
