The 2009 Rol-Valentin has a more reserved, but harmonious bouquet with ample brambly red fruit laced with sage, fennel and light pencil box aromas. The palate is very smooth on the entry, harmonious and poised with a fine bead of acidity. This is very well structured, spicier than many with cracked black pepper and sage towards the finish. One of the best Rol-Valentin vintages in recent years. (NM)
A fleshy, inviting style, with lots of crushed fig and steeped blackberry fruit woven with warmed cocoa and pain d'épices, all backed by a distinctly racy graphite note. Stays fleshy through the finish without being heavy. (JM)
Rich and smooth, a former garage wine turned respectable. It is powerful but very smooth, with sweet damsons and juicy berry fruit. The wood is well integrated. (RV)
