K&L Notes

Released from the Chateau in 2019- L'Avocat is in the small commune of Cerons, which is located just north of Barsac and Sauternes in the southern Graves appellation. I met Nicola Allison at a small conference of Women from Bordeaux and Napa Valley in Napa. She followed my advice by sending her wines to our hotel in Bordeaux the following April to be tasted, and Clyde and I liked them. I followed up by visiting the estate almost eight weeks later and was shown the gravely plateau vineyards by her husband Sean, who manages the vines. The vineyards were purchased by the Allisons in 2002; the fruit was previously sold to Mouton Rothschild. At 300 feet above the Garrone River, the vineyards have stunning views of the lovely Côtes de Bordeaux. The vineyard's elevation is a key factor in its great drainage, and the soil is loaded with different color gravel that imparts textbook minerality to both their whites and reds. The Rouge is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon 40% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. (Ralph Sands, K&L Bordeaux expert)

A "just released" offering from l'Avocat that will impress even the most jaded Bordeaux drinker. Very pretty notes of violets followed by coffee, cassis and cocoa. It is ready to be drunk with some decanting.

The 2009 Château l’Avocat “Cuvée Speciale” is from one of the best vintages of that decade, and it shows. It has pure, rich wild berry fruits on the nose with a hint of toast. It is a rich, plush wine but still has plenty of freshness and verve, and a pleasant finish that goes and goes. Again, at $29.99 this would easily hold its own at any high-end dinner party.

L'Advocat is always a great go to wine when one is looking for a reasonably priced Bordeaux. The 2009 L'Advocat is wonderfully expressive and balanced with nice round fruit and a subtle hint of mineral. This wine will be great with hearty foods.

I love the Graves region for value priced Bordeaux and the 2009 l'Avocat Rouge is a great example. Composed of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc it has classic proportions for this area. The powerful nose is full of plum fruit backed up by gravelly earth. In the mouth it has a full, rich texture and a hint of chocolate on the palate. This is a great 2009 to drink while you are waiting for your classified growths to mature. That being said, I think this wine has plenty of stuffing to develop nicely for at least 10 years.
    Drink from 2013 to 2019
