Superripe, highly aromatic nose of cling peach and clove, with no obtrusive oakiness. Explosive, sappy, peachy fruit is superconcentrated and rich but impressively dry. Perhaps less expressive today than the Clos de la Mouchere but this has grand cru intensity and class, and great sappy freshness and energy. Extremely long and fine on the aftertaste.
This reminded me of a classic Bienvenues with its wonderfully seductive aromas of white flowers and sweet honeysuckle with rich, naturally sweet, round and stunningly complex flavors and striking length. There is a very different character here than is found in the Mouchère as the intense minerality of the prior wine is replaced by a seductive richness and a round, sappy, mouth coating silkiness. A knockout effort that is remarkably stylish and one that will reward medium term patience.
Minerals, slate, and notes of reduction...can be found in the nose of the tightly wound 2002 Puligny-Montrachet Les Pucelles. Light to medium-bodied, bright, and filled with lemony minerals, it should blossom and flesh out with its pre-bottling racking. Projected maturity: 2006-2012.
