Even better and a spectacular Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the 2010 Domaine des Sénéchaux Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a similar blend of 56% Grenache, 22% Syrah, 20% Mourvedre, and 2% assorted varieties. Aged 55% in foudre, 35% in barrels, and 15% in tank, it exhibits a classical profile of sweet kirsch, spice-box, dusty minerality, and hints of leather and pepper to go with a full-bodied, seamless, and mouth filling texture. Concentrated, polished, and supple, with serious depth through the mid-palate and a blockbuster finish, this beauty opens up in the glass, and will drink well for 12-15 years. 94+
Sénéchaux's 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape still has a long life ahead of it. Leather, cedar and licorice notes accent fresh cherries on the nose, while the full-bodied palate manages to be warm, generous and creamy in texture while finishing crisp, intense and long. Drink through 2030. (JC)
Dense and sappy, with lots of kirsch, blackberry cobbler, plum paste and braised fig notes, lined with roasted apple wood, black tea and anise. The long finish has ample grip, but it's well-embedded, leaving a concentrated yet polished feel. A strong showing for this quietly improving domaine. Best from 2015 through 2030. (JM, Web Only-2013)
Vivid ruby. Intense raspberry and cherry aromas are given an exotic touch by notes of black tea, smoked meat and dried lavender. Full and plush, with sweet red berry compote flavors and sneaky spiciness. A pliant, polished wine that marries power and finesse, finishing with impressive length and lingering smokiness. (JR)
