The Chaignots chez Chevillon is often the most exuberant of the premier crus out of the blocks, but the 2010 shows a wonderful sense of reserve in this vintage that I suspect augurs very, very well for its future evolution in bottle. The stunning nose offers up a complex mélange of red plums, black cherries, a nice touch of violet, raw cocoa, nutty tones, a complex base of soil and a fine framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very pure, with a great core of fruit, a very elegant profile, excellent mid-palate depth and very refined tannins on the flawlessly balanced finish. A beautiful, beautiful bottle of Chaignots.
The 2010 Nuits-St-Georges Les Chaignots shows the more delicate, finessed side of Nuits in its red cherries, flowers and spices. The influence of the location of this site, on the northern side of Nuits abutting Vosne, comes through in the wine’s elegance. Firm tannins suggest the wine will need at least a few years in bottle to soften. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030. I have to say, this is a stunning set of wines from Denis and Bertrand Chevillon. A discreet touch of wood still allows the light spiced purple fruit aromas to shine. There is fine richness and excellent mid-palate ripeness and concentration to the medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a long, complex and quite serious finish. This is a Vosne/Nuits hybrid as the Vosne influence is clear on the nose but the structure and robustness is distinctly Nuits. *Outstanding*
Dark bright red. Ripe blackberry and stony minerality on the showy nose, lifted by sexy oak spices. Fat, sappy and deep, with very good density for this cuvee. Finishes with broad, sweet tannins and excellent length. The crop level of 35 hectoliters per hectare was down 30% from normal, noted Bertrand Chevillon. (ST)
