Acidity and fresh fruit are out of balance with smoky wood. The wine will need to integrate in the coming months, although all the elements are there.
Dark ruby. Rather inexpressive nose hints at violet, black pepper, menthol and smoke. Densely packed and solid but not heavy, with decent sweetness to its black fruit and spice flavors. Still a bit musclebound today, finishing with an austere mouthfeel and building tannins that will require plenty of bottle aging. Tasted twice, with one sample considerably better than the other, hence the range in my score.
The 2010's deep plum/ruby color is accompanied by a subtle note of minerality intermixed with fresh acids, sweet tannin and excellent concentration, suggesting this wine should drink nicely for 10-12 years.
