Opaque purple. Sexy blueberry, cassis and floral aromas are complemented by smoked meat, dusty minerals and cracked pepper. Very pretty wine, offering seductive dark berry flavors, velvety texture and building spiciness. Utterly seamless, with superb finishing clarity and sweet persistence. I kept looking for rough edges but there were none to be found. (ST)
There's gorgeous purity of fruit, offering a range of ripe, juicy blackberry and wild berry fruit that's intense, full-bodied and focused, with subtle, pleasing earthy, minerally notes that join the dark berry fruit on the long, supple finish. (JL)
Possessing a cool climate profile, the 2006 Radio-Coteau Syrah Timbervine has bright and lifted aromatics of blackberry and raspberry fruit, white pepper, underbrush and fresh flowers. The palate is medium bodied with a beautiful, sappy texture, pure fruit and a long finish with fine grained tannins. Decidedly northern Rhône with its fruit and acid profile, this should drink well over the next decade or more.
Radio-Coteau is another great success story, with proprietor Eric Sussman producing small-lot, handcrafted wines. Everything is fermented naturally, there are no enzymes, acidulations, very low SO2 is utilized, and the wines are bottled in-house, with neither fining nor filtration. This is always an exciting line-up of wines that remain fairly priced. (RP)
