There are 600 cases of the deep ruby/purple-colored 2001 Altagracia, a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, and 8% Petit Verdot. This seductive effort reveals more fruit, charm, and lushness than the structured, more narrow 2000. (RP)
Good dark red. Cool but complex nose melds cherry, currant, cedar and lead pencil. Sweet on entry, then lively in the middle palate, with cool flavors of maraschino cherry, redcurrant, loam and mint. Higher-pitched and less pliant than the Eisele Vineyard Cabernet, without the lush texture and ripeness of that wine. The tannins are less fine, but this second wine shows very good persistence. (ST)
