It is hard to find much better Merlot than Foley’s 2007 Merlot. This is a blockbuster wine as well. Opulent, exuberant, with that certain “wow” factor from layers of melted fudge, espresso roast, plum, fig, and black cherry and currants, there is an impression of sweetness because of the high levels of alcohol/glycerin. Drink through 2023. (RP)
A massive style. This is huge and rich, with spices, berry, hints of toasted oak, and milk chocolate on the nose. Full bodied, with a block buster style and chewy tannins.
Full ruby-red. Plum, spicecake, chocolate, mocha and nutty oak on the nose. Lush on entry, then compellingly sweet and plump in the middle, with a distinctly confectionery quality to its mouthfilling fruit. This will never be mistaken for an Old World wine. With its exotic sweetness, soft tannins and chocolatey oak, this is a guilty pleasure. (ST)
A distinctive style, loaded with high-toned, toasty oak, but there's more than enough depth and richness to carry this. Aromas of currant and espresso lead to supple, structured plum, roasted anise and spice flavors. Tannins tighten the finish. (TF)
