The 2011 Pinot Noir Rosella's Vineyard is quite pretty. Soft, floral notes meld into cloves, dark red cherries, licorice and leather. A hint of orange peel and spices add an element of exoticism that is intriguing. Sweet floral notes add lift on the finish. This is easily one of the best Rosella's Pinots of the year. Drinking window: 2013 - 2018 Andrew Vingiello did a terrific job with his 2011 Pinots. The wines were so raw when I first tasted them in June 2012, but today, they are beautiful. The 2011s mostly came in at the higher end of my projected ranges from last year. The 2011s were made from fully destemmed fruit, as is the custom here, and spent 11 months in French oak barrels, 50% new. The forward, fruit-driven style is best suited to near and medium-term enjoyment. I also tasted a number of 2012s from barrel, but the wines were too unfinished to get a clear read on them. I sensed plenty of promise, though, so it will be interesting to see where the wines go once they are more fully formed.
