From a north-facing slope, the 2011 Pinot Noir Seabiscuit Zotovich Vineyard has a deep, Burgundian profile of forest floor, ripe red and black fruits, crushed stone, rose petal and spring flowers that flows to a rich, layered and ethereally textured wine that’s perfectly balanced, has building richness and ripe tannin on the finish. Superb, it should continue to drink beautifully through 2023. Drink 2015-2023. Paul Lato continues to knock it out of the park and I can’t say enough about the quality coming from this estate. Across the board, the wines show classic, varietally correct profiles that always show finesse and elegance, yet back it up with layers of fruit and texture. (JD)
The 2011 Pinot Noir Seabiscuit Zotovich Vineyard is one of Lato's more mid-weight, fragrant Pinots. Floral notes lead to dark red fruits in an up-front Pinot that seems to already be showing all that it has. I don't find the complexity of the best wines in the range here. If I were going to drink one of Paul Lato's 2011 Pinots today, this would be it, as the flavors are already nicely developed.
Quiet nose of red cherry and spice. Some woody spice. Dry, firm and really very burgundian. Zero sweetness. Relatively lean but not thin. Persistent in an understated style.
