Red-ruby. Complex, vibrant nose combines blackcurrant, blackberry, violet, minerals and woodsmoke, along with a menthol austerity. Big, broad and deep; round and suave. A very elegant, subtle wine whose firm tannins are perfectly supported by lovely finishing fruit. (ST)
The 1999 Echezeaux, harvested at 40 hectoliters per hectare, displays dark fruit, Asian spice, and sweet oak aromas. It has outstanding depth of red and black fruits (mostly cherries and blackberries) as well as Asian spices in its pure, dense personality. This medium to full-bodied wine is fresh, harmonious, and boisterous. It reveals loads of ripe tannin and sweet oak in its long finish. (PR)
Also a touch gassy yet with explosive pinot fruit and pungent black oriental spice and wood notes, terrific vinosity with dark black pinot fruit flavors and subtle earth and leather undertones. Intense and sweet with 8 to 10 years of aging potential.
