The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard is a dark, inward wine. An intense core of fruit currently lies behind a shroud of tannins that is nearly impenetrable. Still, with time in the glass, some of the wine’s qualities begin to emerge. This is a striking Cabernet Sauvignon that needs time in the glass to emerge, or another year or two in the cellar. Licorice and violets are some of the notes that wrap around the virile, imposing finish. (AG)
Pure, rich, dense and concentrated, offering a firm mix of loamy earth, dried currant, plum and blackberry fruit that's deep, structured and tannic, with a melted black licorice streak running through it and gaining on the finish. (JL)
Full ruby-red. Musky aromas and flavors of currant, truffle, cedar, mocha and beefsteak tomato, with a soil-driven, salty aspect. A classic example of the earthy side of the 2008 vintage. Richer than the Spring Mountain version but showing a bit less punch and sweetness. Finishes long, though, with suave tannins. (ST)
