A selection exclusively from the Neal Family estate vineyards on Howell Mountain, this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon was barrel aged for eighteen months in 100% new French oak. Concentrated and tannic in youth, this '01 has enjoyed over a decade of bottle age and should settling nicely into its prime drinking window. Release notes from Neal Family: "This is the second offering from our home and winery estate: approximately 10 acres of organically farmed vines at 1750 feet elevation. In 2001, we increased the production yet only bottled 85 cases. As the vineyard matures, we are able to capture the expressive Howell Mountain character of Cabernet Sauvignon without having excessively rough tannins. Another fine example of mountain-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, this distinctive wine is well balanced and full of great character. Intriguing aromas of vanilla and integrated oak as well as spice and black fruit make this a very captivating wine. Coffee, cassis, black cherry and cocoa flavors create a delightful complexity that will be further enhanced with bottle age. Firm mountain tannins wrap the entire palate and provide great balance to the mouthfeel and finish."
