This lithe and wonderfully refined effort is a study in balance and fruity precision, and it is uncannily graceful and concentrated at the same time. Its keen, red-cherry aromas show subtle shadings of minerals and lavender and a light kiss of oak, and its continuous, light-on-their-feet flavors follow suit. It is so incisively fruity and beautifully balanced that we worry a bit that too many bottles will be drunk up too soon, for as good as it is now, it will only get better with age, and we can see it evolving for many years. *Three Stars*
Vivid ruby-red. High-pitched aromas of candied flowers, raspberry and Asian spices, with a deeper cola nuance emerging with air. Lively and precise on the palate, offering sappy red fruit flavors of uncommon depth. Rich but lithe and focused, with excellent finishing clarity and lingering spiciness. (ST)
With ample power under its engine, this Ferrington Vineyard Pinot is rich in cranberry and red cherry, soft and lilting in texture yet nuanced in toasty oak. Big on the finish, it’ll beautifully withstand a few more years on its own before opening, the acidity lively enough to keep flavors vibrant yet mellowed. *Cellar Selection* (VB)
The 2011 Pinot Noir Ferrington Vineyard, from a site in Anderson Valley, is intriguing. Here the flavors are deep, bold and even a bit wild, but all the elements are beautifully balanced in the glass. Juicy dark cherries, plums, game, menthol and spices flesh out in an immediate, resonant wine with tons of complexity and no shortage of personality. (AG)
