Light gold. Spicy lemon and pear aromas are underscored by notes of talc and quinine. Pleasantly bitter, light-bodied citrus and pear flavors pick up a mineral quality with air. Refreshing and extremely easy to drink, finishing bright, racy and long. (ST)
Tasted in early spring, this Chard was still tingly with acidity, but by the time you read this, everything should have calmed down. It’s terrifically ripe with green apple, nectarine and tropical fruit flavors that are so rich, you won’t even miss the oak.
*One Star* A wine with a very different intent, this one is deep and boasts a nice sense of richness, and, if at first it seems a little simple by comparison to its oaky mates, it proves that it is not to be ignored because it is so nicely focused on the crisp apple side of the variety and never lets loose of its buoyant fruit from first to last.
This gains its fleshiness and almond-scented nuttiness from aging on the lees, which brings out ginger and spice as it rounds the wine. It has Chardonnay’s ripe fatness, along with a bitter fruit skin element to balance. For a fall salad of root vegetables and a lightly poached salmon.
