Opaque ruby. Floral aromas of black raspberry and cherry pit, with complicating spicecake and mineral nuances. Round and fleshy on entry, then more energetic in the mid-palate, offering vibrant red and dark berry flavors with no rough edges. This seamless, sweet blend finishes with excellent vivacity and terrific length. (ST)
Plum, black cherries, licorice, spices and tobacco flesh out in the 2012 Evangelho Vineyard Heritage, a Carignane-based, mixed-blacks red from a site in Contra Costa County planted in the 1890s. The flavor profile is very much on the dark side of things, but the wine's mid-weight personality balances some of the more overt elements. (AG)
