While I loved the subtly plush 2010 Bois-Malot, the stony 2009 vintage is great in its own right, albeit a bit more herbaceous, with hits of bell pepper and an earthy finish. Complex with cocoa and dark fruit, this still shows structure and a long finish. It blows my mind that you can get so much sophistication and easy-going elegance - plus the Bordeaux label! - for barely eleven bucks. Incredible value!

Fans of Bois Malot who are worried about the dwindling stock of 2010 - rejoice! We have plenty of the 2009. This wonderful vintage resulted in an earth-driven blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cab Franc that continues to over deliver at an incredible price point. While the 2010 shows more rich fruit, this is an excellent choice for those who prefer reds that display more structure with mineral characteristics. I had this with a simple meal of roasted chicken thighs, mixed peppers, polenta and lacinto kale and it was a fantastic pairing.

2009 in Bordeaux produced wines of lush opulence, and the Bois Malot is a wonderful expression of It's character. With soft, supple tannin and ripe notes of stewed and dried strawberry, blueberry and tobacco leaf, this is a wine to drink now and enjoy!

From 10 hectares of vineyards on the banks of the Dordogne River, about 15 km from the city of Bordeaux itself, 3rd generation vigneron Jacques Meynard produces this incomparable Bordeaux Supérieur. The 2009 Bois-Malot, Bordeaux Supérieur is the perfect expression of a vintage that offers freshness, superb ripeness, and ultrafine tannins. This is full-bodied effort with loads of sweet red and black fruits. A veritable Saint Bernard of a wine – big, friendly, and eager to please. Terrific value here.

If you enjoy steak & claret regularly like I do, an affordable Bordeaux from a great vintage and producer like this is a godsend! It is classic Bordeaux in structure, with supple red fruit with a touch of savoriness, and the soft ample tannins typical of the vintage. Claret drinkers could definitely benefit from having a case of this quality everyday Bordeaux around.
    Top Value!
