From high atop the hills above Freestone, this Pinot Noir saw 10% stem inclusion during fermentation and was aged in 20% new oak for just over a year to achieve enviable structure and bite amid an intensity of raspberry and strawberry kirsch flavor. This gorgeous wine will open up even more if held in bottle until 2017–2019. But it’s so good now you’ll find it hard to wait.
The 2012 Pinot Noir Platt Vineyard bursts from the glass with a rush of intense, dark fruit. Racy and beautifully layered, the 2012 is built on a serious core of fruit. Plums, sweet red cherries, rose petals and sweet spices all wrap around the layered, pliant finish. The 2012 is an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next few years... I found much to admire in the wines I tasted, especially the 2012 Pinot Noirs, a number of which are truly outstanding. Kemp's preference is to pick earlier rather than later. These are generally mid-weight wines built more on acidity and structure than overt fruit. (Antonio Galloni)
Bright ruby-red. Spice- and smoke-accented cherry and dark berry aromas are complemented by a subtle mineral quality and a hint of licorice. Offers bitter cherry and floral pastille flavors, along with a suggestion of star anise that gains strength with air. Closes supple and long, with building spiciness and excellent clarity.
