Medium red. Exotic, herbal red berry and bitter cherry aromas offer great floral complexity and focus. Tart berry and licorice flavors are juicy and dry but filled in; finishes with excellent grip and lift. I like this Pinot's complexity and grown-up personality. (JR)
The cool climate 2004 Pinot Noir Reed Vineyard exhibits a dark ruby color as well as a beautiful, sweet nose of cranberries, kirsch liqueur, and spice, and surprisingly evolved and intense fruit for a young Calera Pinot. As it sits in the glass, spicy, sassafras, Allspice, and a Gevrey-Chambertin-like meatiness and roasted herb character emerge. This is a medium to full-bodied wine with considerable power, outstanding fruit depth as well as ripeness, and surprising charm for a young Reed. Drink it over the next decade or more. (RP)
A high-toned red berry fruit nose that is distinctly floral and somewhat vegetal in character merges into supple, forward and nicely detailed flavors that possess good depth of material though the flavors and finish are youthfully awkward, indeed even edgy. Overall, this is a most interesting effort that I believe will come together with time in bottle though note that it's going to need a few years as it's still searching for its center at present.
