Vivid ruby. Fresh redcurrant and cherry on the nose, complicated by spice and floral elements. Juicy, vibrant red fruit and floral pastille flavors show good depth, with bright acidity adding clarity and lift. Aeration brings up deeper blackberry and anise notes that carry through a spicy, persistent finish. (ST)
The most obviously ripened of the current William Selyem lot and a wine of real fruity muscle, the Central Coast bottling is an ample Pinot Noir whose essential themes of varietal cherries are in no way compromised by its extra substance and minor heat. It may finish with a bit of youthful stiffness, but it has plenty of flesh on its bones, and, while it will serve well with heartier red meats in the near term, it is a wine worth putting away for as many as four or five years.
