The Teeling Family has been in whiskey for centuries. In 1782, Walter Teeling opened the family's first distillery in Dublin and over two hundred years later John Teeling opened the Cooley Distillery in County Louth. After selling his beloved distillery to spirits giant Beam Inc., Mr. Teeling wasted no time before jumping back on the whiskey train. This time at the helm is Jack Teeling, John's son. The result is this lovely, innovative new whiskey. Clearly, the Teelings' have access like no one else and thank god because he's now cranking out this wonderful little glory. This is a high malt blend, which is further matured in various casks and released in ultra small batches. This batch was finished for 6 months barrels that formerly held high quality rum. The rum casks provide a wonderful flourish to the soft smooth qualities of the Irish whiskey. On the nose, powerful baking spices are evident (maybe the rum barrels?) hidden behind are fresher more classically Irish whiskey aromas, apples, stone fruits, fresh herbs and vanilla. Texturally full, with plenty of spice and depth of character on the palate. It's not sweet Irish whiskey, it's lovely luscious round and spicy. Its bottled without chill-filtration at 92 proof.
