A blend of 53% Syrah, 32% Mourvedre and 15% Grenache that was aged in 55% new French oak barrels, the 2011 The Banshee offers loads of spice, white and black pepper, licorice and assorted darker berry fruit to go with a full-bodied, seamless style on the palate. I love the texture here, and it has a savory, chewy profile that will benefit from short-term cellaring, and evolve nicely for over a decade. (JD)
Opaque ruby. Intensely perfumed aromas of fresh black and blue fruits, violet and smoky Indian spices, with a zesty mineral nuance adding vivacity. Offers an array of sappy black and blue fruit flavors complicated by star anise and allspice. Finishes on a subtly sweet note, with outstanding energy, easygoing tannins and excellent focus. (JR)
