The winery’s second vintage from this site, Calegari is medium- weight, with structured oak and a silky palate. It’s a ripe expression of anise and red cherry that’s juicy, spicy and complex, with pretty violet aromas. *Editors' Choice* (VB)
Bright ruby. Perfumed scents of raspberry, cherry and smoky minerals, with a sexy floral quality building with air. Shows darker fruit character on the palate, along with notes of candied rose and cola. Closes with excellent clarity, chewy tannins and a lingering allspice nuance. (ST)
Although its lithe and somewhat refined, red-cherry aromas predict a wine of less weight and strength, this one surprises a bit and proves to be a bit riper and richer than billed. It conveys a good sense of muscle without ever tipping to coarseness and holds tightly to sustained fruit right to the end, and it is just firm enough to invite a few years of keeping even if it is fairly obvious now.
