This is at once spicy yet relatively restrained with its liqueur-like plum and violet aromas. There is a wonderfully seductive and sophisticated texture to the medium weight flavors that are shaped by impressively fine-grained tannins that contribute all the more to the polished mouth feel of the complex, balanced and strikingly long finish. This is terrific and if this can add just a bit more depth it might just catch the Allen in time. I should note that here too there is a hint of warmth but it is markedly less noticeable than in the Calegari and in any case does not materially detract from the overall sense of balance. *Outstanding*
Vivid ruby. Smoky cherry and dark berries on the deeply pitched, highly aromatic nose. Powerful black raspberry and Indian spice flavors stain the palate, picking up a suave floral pastille nuance with air. The smoky note comes back on the youthfully tannic, incisive finish, which lingers with serious tenacity and appealing sweetness. (ST)
From a tremendous coastal vineyard site, this Pinot is surprisingly full bodied and soft, yet possessed of bolder, bigger blue and black fruit and oak than many of the winery’s other designated offerings. Black tea and savory sandalwood pique the palate, the wine’s texture standing out for its silkiness. Enjoy through 2025. *Cellar Selection*
