The 2012 Zinfandel Cedarman includes a small amount of Petite Syrah. It is actually a proprietary blend from their two other Zinfandel cuvees, Rattlesnake Ridge and Dragon Vineyard, both on Howell Mountain. Turley Wine Cellars has long been one of the more enviable wine operations in California. Larry Turley should, and does, receive enormous credit for nearly single-handedly preserving many of the heritage old vine Zinfandel sites that exist in northern California. (RP)
Turley's 2012 Zinfandel Cedarman is a young vines blend of fruit from Dragon and Rattlesnake, plus a dollop of Petite Sirah. One of the Turley's most intense, voluptuous wines, the 2012 dazzles from the very first taste. Dark red cherry, plum, spice, menthol and tobacco notes meld together effortlessly. Although this is a young-vines cuvée, there is more than enough underlying structure to support many years of highly rewarding drinking. The Petite adds quite a bit of character. (AG)
(15.8% alcohol; includes a bit of petite sirah): Good deep red. Ripe, rather wild aromas of dark fruits, earth, bitter chocolate and musky coffee. Sweet, tactile and superripe; a bit lower-toned and more chocolatey in the mouth than some of the preceding zins but with no shortage of acidity. Finishes with substantial tannins and very good length. This is actually a blend from Rattlesnake Ridge and Dragon Vineyards. (ST) 91+?
