Always the richest and most powerful of the single-vineyard releases, the 2013 Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard is the only single-vineyard Syrah to see any new oak, yet the oak is always completely soaked up by the wealth of fruit. The 2013s inky purple color is followed by a decadent array of plums, blueberries, smoked herbs and violets characteristics that literally come soaring from the glass. Full-bodied, voluptuous and about as hedonistic as they come with lots of sweet fruit, this powerhouse effort has no hard edges and a great finish. Like a lot of Joey's wines, this pushes on the sweetness level, yet is still one sexy drink. (JD)
The 2013 Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard is dark, rich and voluptuous, with a personality that emphasizes textural depth and richness. Pomegranate, exotic spices, mint and new leather are all super-expressive, while floral and savory varietal notes play less of a role. That is typical of Colson Canyon, the warmest site Tensley works with. For what its worth, this is one of my personal favorites in the range. (AG)
A real find, rich, juicy and deeply fruited, with blackberry, wild berry and black currant flavors. This is both powerful and graceful, revealing black licorice and dusty herb accents as this builds to a long, sleek finish. (JL)
