Turley's 2011 Zinfandel Duarte is all about texture. Mocha, plums, spices, leather and licorice notes flesh out in a wine that shows surprising depth and volume in this vintage. A creamy, expressive finish rounds things out nicely. The Duarte is a blend of three parcels in Contra Costa, the youngest of which was planted in the 1940s. This is one of the more immediate, juicy wines in the range. (AG)
Ripe and briary, with raspberry and grilled herb aromas, delivering lively cherry, smoky sage and cracked pepper flavors. The tannins sneak in on the finish. (TF)
