Bright red with ruby highlights. Sappy, sophisticated nose hints at black raspberry and licorice. Intensely flavored and aromatically pure, with the raspberry flavors given a distinctly savory quality by strong peppery acidity. With a relatively low pH of 3.5, this offers a lovely light touch in spite of its serious density. Finishes perfumed and long, with suave, lightly peppery tannins. Built for aging. (ST) 92+
The 2011 Zinfandel Salvador Vineyard is gorgeous. Mocha, plum, spice, licorice and clove nuances wrap around the palate in an expressive Zinfandel loaded with class. This is another relatively open, expressive wine for the year, with lovely breadth and volume. The nuanced, spiced finish is particularly of note. (AG)
A brooding Zin, with aromas of herbs de Provence and black raspberry, offering dense flavors of ripe black cherry, licorice and smoked spice. The tannins are a bit rustic on the finish. Needs time. (TF)
