Olema is produced by the folks at Amici Cellars. Fruit was sourced from select vineyards around Sonoma County and blended with a splash of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The wine was aged for more than a year in 30% new French oak before bottling.

I have been fortunate enough on a couple of occasions to enjoy a glass or two in the company of Bob Shepard, one of the partners in Amici Cellars. What is so compelling about Bob is the fact that he simply loves making great wine and sharing that wine with friends. Nothing more complicated than that. By those standards, the 2012 Olema Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon is a triumph. Classic California Cabernet character at a price you can afford to drink. And have enough money left over so you can pick up a second bottle in case company drops by. You never know.

Amici’s second label Cabernet Sauvignon satisfies on many levels: its Sonoma County fruit is rich and nuanced, provides ripe dark fruit, leather and anise flavors along with lush velvety tannins, and it costs less than half of its Napa Valley counterpart, making it a great accompaniment to a hearty mid-week meal. Put this on your list of top values!

The Olema Cabernet, second label from our friends at Amici Cellars, is a terrific wine from the 2012 vintage. Bright fruit and an easy going and approachable tannic structure make for great drinking on its own, or for a beautiful pairing with any protein rich food (especially the delicious steak kabobs I just tried it with!). The excellent use of a small amount of new French oak gives this wine lots of weight and character, but doesn’t overpower the high quality of the ripe fruit. For only $20 bucks, it's hard to go wrong here.

Again and again, the Olema Cabernet never fails to be the best in its class! The 2012 is even more exceptional than usual because the fruit is matched by its pure elegance. More richness, but also more texturally pleasing, without too much oak, leaving it supple and food friendly with its integrated light tannins and juicy acidity. This is the perfect $20 Cab for anyone looking for a super versatile everyday red that can pair with almost any food, or just enjoy it on its own!

The Olema Cabernet Sauvignon offers a lot of elegant notes of cocoa, cassis, a touch of vanilla that makes it very much a Cab for those looking for a step up from the everyday, but still afordable and with a great pedigree...

This second offering from Amici Cellars is a steal year after year! Beautiful Sonoma County fruit with a touch of new French oak. Raspberry, casic, mocha, vanilla, and a clean, softly tanic finish. Classic Sonoma Cabernet!

This is classic Sonoma Cab. Dark red fruit, a touch of chocolate and spicy oak. Lush on the palate with just enough tannin to give it heft but no edges.

This bottling from Amici Cellars was hugely popular with the 2011 vintage. Well, it only gets better with the 2012 vintage! Deep and rich, with dark red fruits, cassis and mocha notes. Lush on the palate, with bright oak and roasted nuts. Another winner from Amici Cellars!
