The 2009 Syrah Six White Horses is 92% Syrah and 8% Viognier (and maybe some Roussanne) that was aged in 65% new, 300lLiter barrels. A sexy, full-bodied effort, it offers a decidedly floral-laced profile with ripe blackberry, plum, violets and licorice all emerging from the glass. Glass-staining and rich, it holds everything together brilliantly and has ripe tannin framing the finish nicely. Enjoy it over the coming 7-8 years. Drink now-2021. (JD)
Inky purple. Heady, exotically perfumed black and blue fruit liqueur aromas are complicated by suggestions of incense, candied violet, cured tobacco and vanilla. Shows a deft blend of Old and New World qualities on the palate, offering sweet blueberry, cherry-vanilla and olive tapenade flavors and a bracing kick of cracked pepper. Closes sweet and long, with an echo of vanilla.
A powerful wine, offering a gorgeous core of vivid, rich blackberry, wild berry and raspberry, with shades of tar, pencil lead and black licorice. Holds focus through the finish.
