The 2009 Pinot Noir Wohler Vineyard is from another site planted with Dijon clones 115, 667, 828, and treated similarly (50% new French oak, bottled unfined and unfiltered.). It has a slightly darker hue to its ruby color, more raspberry, boysenberry and darker fruits, and slightly more restrained aromatics. It kicks into gear in the mouth, with a slightly fuller, richer, more structured and denser mouthfeel than the Russian River. This is an example of a less silky and less seductive style, but one with more power, muscle, richness and length. It should drink well for 5-6 years and is a beautifully made, pure Pinot. 92+ (RP)
Shows wonderful focus, vibrancy and balance, with a mix of spicy berry, mineral, anise and blackberry flavors. Pure, intense and snappy, ending with a taut, tannic finish. Best from 2012 through 2020. (JL)
Bright ruby. Intense, floral-accented aromas of cherry and black raspberry, with violet and cola topnotes. Offers pungent cherry and floral pastille flavors, juicy acidity and and an exotic Indian spice nuance. Closes on a sweet cherry note, with excellent clarity and lingering smoke and spice qualities. Although very much showing the ripeness that is central to all of the Sojourn bottlings, this one comes with a good measure of well-extracted, dark-cherry fruit and plenty of palatal flesh. It is ever so slightly soft in balance but toughens up a touch at the finish, and, if just rough enough to want a bit of bottle age, it will be helped by service with food in the short term and should smooth out nicely with time.
