Brilliant red. Highly energetic, spice-laced dark berry, cherry cola and potpourri aromas pick up a smoky nuance as the wine opens up. Sweet, broad and subtly spicy in the mouth, offering concentrated blackberry and cherry compote flavors and hints of musky rhubarb and succulent herbs. The powerful, clinging finish is framed by smooth, sneaky tannins and leaves notes of ripe blackberry and candied flowers behind. (JR)

The 2012 Pinot Noir Mineral Springs Vineyard includes 30% whole-cluster fruit and is aged in 45% new French oak. The nose is nicely focused with a mixture of red and black fruit, subtle sous-bois scents and later, just a touch of licorice. The palate is medium-bodied with well-judged acidity, clean dark berry fruit tinged with cola and spice, leading to an elegant and focused finish. This is very fine: a sophisticated Pinot Noir to enjoy over the next decade. (NM)
