4th Growth Branaire-Ducru is perhaps my favorite of the classified St-Julien properties. It’s quality, price, and classic appeal translate into multiple vintages in my cellar. I have had very few opportunities to taste the second label, Duluc de Branaire-Ducru, but that changed when Clyde recently brought in some larger format bottles including the 2001 Duluc de Branaire-Ducru, St-Julien (3L) $139.99. A terrific price for a double magnum, we have already sold a number of these for family gatherings and larger events. Typical of the ’01 vintage, the wine combines lively acidity with good ripeness. Aging perhaps a bit precociously, notes of tobacco and cedar are already apparent. Spot on and absolutely delicious. Drink or hold.
